Algebraic Geometry: the Classical Approach to the Modern

Abstract: In this learning seminar we talk about a deep connection between algebra and geometry, specifically an equivalence of a certain category of rings and a category of geometric objects called varieties. After exploring some pros and cons to how these classical objects are defined, we take a modern approach and generalize varieties, leading us to scheme theory.
